There are many people who like to spend a lot of time in their patios. This gives you the best of both worlds when it comes to being both indoors and outdoors. The fact that the patio is part of the house means that you can afford some of the creature comforts that are attributable to this, including comfortable furniture. However, the fact that the patio protrudes outside means that you also get to benefit from being in the open. This is particularly helpful if you have an excellent view, such as when you overlook a garden or a nice landscape.

However, one of the problems that you are likely to encounter when you are in such a position is having too many pests come into the enclosure. For instance, if you live in a part of the world where there are many mosquitoes, these might make it difficult for you to stay in the patio for as long as you want to. Most of the time, the best workaround to this is making sure that the patio is enclosed. This will then restrict the entry of any insects and other pests into the patio. Of course, there are other things you might need to do in addition to simply installing the patio enclosure and these include:

Clear any pools of water around the house

Having stagnant water around the house provides a breeding ground for mosquitoes. After installing the patio enclosure, you should make sure that all such water is gotten rid of. For instance, pools that are not needed should be filled up, and any containers around the home that could collect water should be disposed of as well. This way, the population of mosquitoes around the home will be reduced. Even if you forget to close the patio enclosure door once in a while, you will not get as large a mosquito infestation as before.

However, there are some people who need such water around their homes. For instance, if you have a pool or a pond in the backyard, it might be an integral part of the home’s design. One of the ways of discouraging the presence of mosquito larvae in such a pool is by rearing fish in the pool. These will make the pool even more beautiful, and they will also eat the larvae of the mosquitoes.

Clear vegetation

In addition to that, you should also try to trim the vegetation around the house. The presence of too much vegetation often leads to an increased intensity of mosquito infestation. You can also use this as a way of making the landscape look more beautiful. If you are not sure about how to do this, you can always consult a landscaper.

Install an enclosure that is meant to keep insects out

When you decide to install the patio enclosure, you will find that there are many different designs you can choose from. It’s always a good idea to go for those that are optimized to reduce insect entry into the patio. For instance, you could order an enclosure made out of a mesh that will allow a lot of air into the patio, but which will also restrict the entry of any insects.

Install an insect killer

Once you have set up the enclosure, you should also consider buying an insect killer for the facility. These are electronic devices that attract all types of insects, and then have them electrocuted on contact with the machine. They are known to be very effective, and will go a long way in keeping the patio free of mosquitoes and many other insects.
